Family Floesy

Poetry Postings From Jerome Hall (Floistic)

The Test of a Sunday’s Best

So you stand alone in this desert of an industry

Where voices are idolized and styles are scrutinized

Where pride overrides who should be magnified

Tried by the heat of your passion, your one true love, your own gift

Sifted by the hands of a plan. Only to be plucked and tucked under what was meant to hide you

Embarrassment…

But for a brief moment your leaves of confidence fall

It is then that you realize you were planted in this desert after all

This desert of an industry, where voices are idolized and styles are scrutinized

Where pride overrides who should be magnified

Naysayers are nonsensical and they embellish the foolish minstrel

Desensitized and cannot respond to the incense of God’s anointed

Appointed for a purpose

Like the Great Sunland Baobab of South Africa

You’re rooted in this desert

You’re tough and your bark is fire resistant

Insistent in a time where quit comes before try

Eyes are opened wide as you relieve some doubt when you scoff at the driest drought

Rooted in climatic conditions where the church world is influenced by commercialization, colonization

And forming cliques where your shtick is not recognized

I advise you to stay grounded and let the jaws of man drop

As they are astonished by your bulk and stature, oh Baobab

You’re strange looking to them, but you’re known to us

Trust your Maker and let your mettle be tested

Your best is better than a Sunday’s best

Let the rest have that mess

Your fruit is edible, your life is legible

So stand in this desert of an industry

Where voices are idolized and styles are scrutinized

Where pride overrides who should be magnified

While some surmise what you won’t achieve

I grieve for those who don’t believe

We see what the world needs

Present to them God and let him precede.

(We’re Proud of you Terrill Hall)

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
